Long time away from here

A lot has happened since I last posted. My hip healed well, in fact I did the Polar Bear Bike Ride less than a month after getting off my crutches. Later that year I rode the bike trail from Washington DC to Pittsburgh, Pa. by myself camping along the way except for a night in Frostburg Md. when they had tornado warnings and a night with a friend in Confluence, Pa.
Last year I did GOBA (The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure) a seven day bike ride in Ohio. There were 2,700 riders on the ride. I had a blast. My wife's younger sister lives in Williamsburg, Va. and we go down to visit when on vacation. I bring along a bicycle and while the women are doing "chic stuff". I go out for bike rides in the Williamsburg area. It's a great area to ride and I always put on a bunch of miles. This year I rode the abandoned turnpike tunnels. These are the old Pennsylvania turnpike tunnels near Breezewood, Pa. They were abandoned in 1968 and the roadway is growing up in wildflowers now. The Sidling Hill tunnel is 1.7 miles long and was the longest tunnel on the turnpike system. It is really cool riding through the tunnel now. The cars and trucks are long gone, so are the lights in the tunnel. I discovered that if you sing in the tunnel it sounds really cool. I also took up kayaking this year. I did some whitewater kayaking on the Ohiopyle in a rented kayak, then I came home and bought my own kayak.
